At the invitation of the College of Communication Engineering, Professor Liu Derong, Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Management and Control for Complex Systems, CAS, visited our school for academic dialogue. The academic seminar was held in the Nanling Campus, and attended by students and faculties.
Professor Liu gave a report titled “Self-Learning Control of Nonlinear Systems based on Iterative Adaptive Dynamic Programming Approach”, and was met with zealous interest from the participants. An in-depth discussion surrounding the academic questions in the field soon started, and Professor Liu gave his thorough and detailed answers to the questions asked by our students and faculties. All in all, the event was engaging and enlightening.
Professor Liu Derong received his Ph.D. Degree from University of Notre Dame in 1993, and is now a Professor of the University of Illinois’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Professor Liu has long been engrossed in the research of such fields like, smart control theories and application, smart computing, theories and approaches for complex systems, process control, electrical system operation and control, to name a few. He has published more than 60 papers on international journals, and more than 130 international meeting papers. For his academic accomplishments, he was selected as a researcher for 100 Talents Program by CAS’s Institute of Automation. For many years, Professor Liu has received wide attention and enjoyed high prestige for his research. Apart from being active researcher, Professor Liu is also a Doctoral supervisor.
